Franchise History
The Lumber City Franchise started in Lansdowne, Cape Town, in 1979 and was bought by the present franchisor in September 1994.
The immediate increase from the initial seven outlets was startling. The reason for this was obvious: previously very little was done for
the franchisee, leaving him very much on his own.
The franchisor and his team have filled this void by, in particular, negotiating better deals, implementing a program of expansion and
generally maintaining personal contact.
Lumber City distributes a wide variety of plain, melamine and veneer faced chipboard and other board products such as hardboard
and timber products to the DIY market, cabinet makers and builders. In addition to this a cutting service is provided where board
products are cut to size, edged and drilled for concealed hinges which ensures a professional final product.
The Lumber City Franchise Group has in excess of 50 stores throughout Africa. This makes The Lumber City Group the largest group
of independents in our industry.
The Lumber City Group continues to focus on enlarging our footprint locally and internationally.
